Update on Optegra – NHS Services and Referrals – 25 August 2020

Recently Optegra have provided information via email regarding their NHS services and how optometrists can refer directly.

Direct referral of Hampshire patients to Optegra from optometrists for NHS services is not permitted as it is not a CCG commissioned service for these patients.

CCGs are not obligated to pay for treatment where a patient has been referred outside of the e-referral service (ERS) and so this is a reminder that current referral pathways should continue to be used as per the Hampshire LOC website.

West Hampshire CCG in particular would like to remind optometrists that they request all routine referrals to be sent via the patient’s GP.  The GP will then refer the patient to an NHS service which is commissioned by the CCG (unless the patient requests from their GP a referral to an alternative service in accordance with ‘patient choice’).
