Seeing Beyond The Eyes

Thanks to the support of Thomas Pocklington Trust, Visualise Training & Consultancy have launched a free resource pack for professionals which enables opticians to easily locate and refer patients to support services.

It includes details on local sensory impairment teams, sight loss charities, eye clinic liaison officers (ECLOs), vision assessment services and habilitation workers. National support services are also listed, along with condition specific charities and resources for professionals.

Suppliers of low vision aids and daily living solutions are also included to help readers locate specialised assistive technology and equipment. The free pack has been well received and is available in hard copy or digital formats. The following link will take you to the resource pack  http://www.visualisetrainingandconsultancy.com/resource-pack-health-pros/

University Hospital Southampton has recently changed the way their invoices are dealt with and are now sorting things in house rather than via SBS in Wakefield.  This has resulted in some changes to procedure. Despite the changes optical practices should still continue to send completed HES claims directly to Rory McClenaghan at the address on the voucher, he can then get things organised for payment.

Ian Silk - Hampshire LOC Business Manager     Optometry is changing at its fastest ever rate and our profession is in need of change in response to the disruptive technology all around us in the digital age. The way you work in the future will be shaped by these technologies. There are both opportunities and threats posed by these changes. The LOC represents all practitioners in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight whether they  work in the corporate or independent sectors. It negotiates for enhanced services with the local NHS and is also engaged with our national representatives at LOCSU to further the aims of the profession. Make no mistake! Change will occur with or without our input. The LOC needs to be revitalised with young enthusiastic practitioners whose futures will be affected by these changes.  No experience is necessary except for your understanding of the situation. Please put yourself , or a colleague forward for election at this year’s AGM in June . We will help you to settle in with an LOC” buddy “who can explain any unfamiliar terms or NHS working methods. Give something back to your profession and help us to be better in the future. After all it is you who will ultimately have to live and work with these changes. Please view the following short video to see what you get out of being involved with the LOC
