Tue 17 January 17 | Hampshire LOC & Southampton CCG Discuss MECS Contract
Hampshire LOC is currently in advanced discussions with Southampton City CCG regarding the provision of a pilot MECS scheme from April 2017. All practices contracted to supply the service will be expected to employ an accredited optometrist and have the following equipment available: · Access to the Internet · Means of binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy · Slit lamp · Tonometer · Distance test chart (Snellen/logmar) · Near test type · Equipment for epilation · Threshold fields equipment to produce a printed report · Amsler Charts · Equipment for FB removal · Appropriate ophthalmic drugs o Mydriatic o Anaesthetic o Staining agents. If you would like to be a part of this service provision please email  isilk@hampshireloc.org.uk  confirming your Practice details and which Optometrists are MECS accredited (please include accreditation date) using the attached Registering an Interest to Provide MECS for Southampton City CCG form. Practices bordering Southampton are also be invited to show interest in being a part of the scheme since they feed into Southampton HES (The LOC will  discuss confirmation of this being acceptable with the CCG). We are also planning to have a launch event towards the end of February to which you will be invited and details will be circulated once finalised. Please reply with the attached Registering an Interest to Provide MECS for Southampton City CCG form as soon as possible and no later than Monday 23 January 2017.


Wed 07 September 16 | Research demonstrates success of community eye care schemes
Two research papers arising from the College of Optometrists'Enhanced Scheme Evaluation Project (ESEP) and published this month, show that optometrists involved in community schemes are able to provide cataract, glaucoma and primary eye care services to patients safely and effectively. “Magnification in Practice” -  An evening presentation for Optometrists & Dispensing Opticians on prescribing magnification at practice level by Associated Optical  CET accredited 1 Interactive enhanced point  6:30pm on Tuesday 20 September 2016  at Optegra Eye Hospital Hampshire, 1200 Parkway, Whiteley Hampshire PO15 7AD Registration and buffet from 6.30 pm with presentation commencing at 7.00 pm.
