Fri 10 February 17 | Optometrist Six Month Secondment Opportunity University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
This is an opportunity for a Hampshire optometrist to gain some fantastic experience working in a hospital environment for six months The primary focus of the post will be to work on Triage in eye casualty by providing a session or two of hands on triage but primarily to develop referral criteria and protocols to UHS or MECS or the GP. The post-holder will be expected to foster links between UHS & Optometrists in the community. He or she will work with UHS staff to provide feedback and support to community Optometrists and MECS scheme Optometrists. He or she will work with the casualty Sister and nurse practitioners on developing treatment protocols for UHS staff and MECS Optometrists so that common treatment protocols are in place. Finally the successful applicant will be provided with enhanced training opportunities in the Eye Casualty setting and/or sub speciality clinics (such as cornea and external eye disease) for 2 or 3 sessions per week, depending on progress and experience. Tue 17 January 17 | Hampshire LOC & Southampton CCG Discuss MECS Contract
Hampshire LOC is currently in advanced discussions with Southampton City CCG regarding the provision of a pilot MECS scheme from April 2017. All practices contracted to supply the service will be expected to employ an accredited optometrist and have the following equipment available: · Access to the Internet · Means of binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy · Slit lamp · Tonometer · Distance test chart (Snellen/logmar) · Near test type · Equipment for epilation · Threshold fields equipment to produce a printed report · Amsler Charts · Equipment for FB removal · Appropriate ophthalmic drugs o Mydriatic o Anaesthetic o Staining agents. If you would like to be a part of this service provision please email  isilk@hampshireloc.org.uk  confirming your Practice details and which Optometrists are MECS accredited (please include accreditation date) using the attached Registering an Interest to Provide MECS for Southampton City CCG form. Practices bordering Southampton are also be invited to show interest in being a part of the scheme since they feed into Southampton HES (The LOC will  discuss confirmation of this being acceptable with the CCG). We are also planning to have a launch event towards the end of February to which you will be invited and details will be circulated once finalised.
